What is the "substitution policy"?
Priyanka's is a distinctive Indian clothing store, unlike any other. No other Indian clothing store does online business the way Priyanka's does. We sell only high-quality, fully customized merchandise, with more than ten thousand items available. (If you have a look at other online Indian clothing outlets, you will find that they typically offer only a few dozen items in standard sizes.) Since 1998, we have worked hard to make our online business user-friendly, although our high standards and the conditions inherent in the business have made this task challenging. 

One of the biggest challenges is the ephemeral Indian fashion market. In India, saree and fabric makers introduce more than five thousand new design, color, and pattern variations every week-and thousands of variations are taken off the market. This happens with no advance notice to us, and the manufacturers have no universal or computerized system to keep track of it all. Fortunately, most new variations are only slightly different from previous patterns. Such changes have little impact on the overall look of a saree or outfit. For example, the flowers in a floral pattern may be printed a little smaller or larger. More rarely, more profound and noticeable changes are made, or a particular pattern is dropped entirely. 

In the meantime, it takes time for us to update our website, since for every new item we must arrange modeling and photography, write up the new description, design the new entry, and incorporate it all into our existing site. We do our best to keep up, but it's an unending process! It is literally impossible for our website to match our stock in every detail.

We think it is important for us to be able to offer you an extremely wide selection. Other shops may have guaranteed-in-stock merchandise, all of which is shown and described on a website, but they offer only a few choices. We have more than ten thousand items to choose from, with more available every day. We think the substitution policy is a reasonable accommodation for our decision to make so many choices available to our customers, and our customers tell us that they agree.

Why do you have a substitution policy?

What is your return or exchange policy?
We do our best to make sure you never need to use this policy. But if you are unhappy with your order for any reason, we will be happy to make an exchange. (A simple refund is not possible, given the customization that goes into every outfit, as well as the difficulties and expense of shipping.) We will make exchanges for up to thirty days after you receive your order for garments that are not damaged or noticeably worn. To make an exchange, we ask that you return the item to us in the original packaging, at your expense, using the shipping method of your choice. We will examine the garment you return, figure out what went wrong, and take immediate steps to prevent such problems from reoccurring. We will communicate with you about your wishes to make sure you will be happy with the exchange. Then, at our expense, we will ship your free replacement to you.
 
Do you have a minimum order policy?
Yes; it is not possible for use to ship orders valued under a certain amount. The minimum value of merchandise for an order is: 
US $65.00 for international delivery 
US $15.00 for delivery in India
Shipping-and-handling charges are in addition to this minimum.

Why do you have a minimum order policy?
We use premium courier services such as FedEx, UPS or DHL, because they guarantee delivery in 3 to 4 days with continuous tracking and accountability. (It is impractical for an international e-commerce business to use a shipper without these features.) These companies have minimum prices: to ship anything from a fraction of an ounce up to a pound costs the same. In the interest of keeping our prices affordable, we subsidize part of the shipping-and-handling cost, especially for smaller orders. But at a certain point this becomes a liability for us; it does not make sense financially. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I don't want you to sell my address or information to anyone else. Do you ever do that?
Priyanka's is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our customers' personal data. We will use the information you furnish while placing an order ONLY for execution of the order. We never distribute, share, or sell customer data.

I am uncomfortable buying from the Internet. Don't I have to worry about high-tech thieves stealing my credit card details?
No need to worry. With Priyanka's, your information is always under maximum security. If you pay online with a credit card, credit details will be processed by WorldPay or CCNow, leaders in e-commerce transactions technology. They use industry-standard security, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, for your transactions, which is widely recognized as safer than using your credit card in person than in a store. Your credit card details are never directly accessible to us-or to anyone else; the details are locked into and handled only by the systems. High-tech thieves cannot access your details. Q: How secure is WorldPay? 
A: WorldPay uses state of the art security tools and techniques, both proprietary and unique, to ensure that you are protected against what is nowadays a virtually non-existent risk. Our systems also have inbuilt system redundancy and fault tolerance, to provide you with a virtually uninterrupted service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our systems have evolved over many years and throughout our history we have continuously sought and gained bank approval for our systems.

Q: If I key in my card details at home or in the office, surely they are not encrypted until after hey arrive at the WorldPay system? 
A: Using industry standard SSL, Thawte and WorldPay unique encryption systems, this is not actually the case. When you fill in the payment form and click the submit button, your details are not sent straight away. What actually happens is that a secure link is set up between the shopper's browser and WorldPay, and an encryption code is requested and received, which then wraps the order and transaction details before leaving the shopper's premises.

Our shopping-cart software runs in Secure Mode on the customer's browser, using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt sensitive data such as credit card numbers. While selecting products and adding them to the Shopping Cart, the customer is in Non-Secure Mode. After he/she presses the Checkout button, we switch to Secure Mode in order to collect the billing and shipping information. All modern Web browsers support the SSL standard, but the customer can choose to checkout using Non-Secure Mode if necessary.

How frequently are new designs added?
We add new designs to our inventory every day, but to our website only as often as we can! We try to publish an updated "Just Out Fashion" on the site approximately once in a 15 days.

Is the blouse shown in the photograph included with the saree?
Stitched blouses are included with the saree as shown in the photographs ONLY when the description of the saree clearly says so. Many sarees can be ordered either with a plain blouse that matches the saree, or, for an additional fee, with the designer blouse shown on the model. Please read the description of the saree you choose for details. We also have a separate section for blouses.

Is the jewelry shown in the photograph included with the outfit?
Do you sell all of the jewelry shown in the photographs of clothes?
No, jewelry and accessories are not included with the clothing. We do have a wide selection of jewelry, but some of the jewelry pictured is not from our collection. Some of the photographs we use were provided by the design houses that produce the items, and in that case, they often use their own jewelry in a shoot.

Will the colors shown on the website match what I get in my order?
Colors shown on the web catalogue will vary according to your monitor and several other equipment factors, so we cannot guarantee this. If you are very particular about color, we ask that you mention this clearly in the special instructions blank when ordering.

My computer crashed while I was placing my order! What should I do?
It depends on how far into the order process you got. If your computer crashed before you click the "pay" link on the final checkout page, please do start over. If your computer crashed after you click the "pay" link on the final checkout page, you don't need to start over. Just go to www.priyankas.com/ccpay to submit your payment information. After you do that, you should receive an automatic confirmation e-mail from our site with your order number and details. At the same time, we will receive your order information. If you have any further problems or if you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, please send an e-mail message to payments@priyankas.com

About ordering
Important Tips
Before you place an order, please read our Policy and Payment Options.

Please make sure that all necessary information is correctly entered in the order form, especially your e-mail address, shipping address, and phone numbers.

Please give your exact measurements in inches or centimeters. Do not add to your actual measurements. We will make the correct allowances for fabric shrinkage and for your comfort. For advice on measurements, please see our Measurement Help page.

Please note that accessories worn by the models in the photographs are not included with the garments. If you would like to order accessories, please see our Jewelry and Tidbits pages.

Any customs duties, import taxes, or VAT levied on garments in the country of import are the responsibility of the buyer and are not handled by Priyanka's.

How do I place an order?
As you browse our site, you can put as many items as you like in your shopping cart. It's easy to take something out later if your change your mind. You can see what is in your cart at any time by clicking the Shopping Cart tab.

When you are ready to check out, click on the Check Out tab. You will be asked fill out a form with your name, e-mail address, shipping address, and payment option choice. (For more information about payment options, security, and policies, please see the Payment Options page.)

The minimum order for delivery outside India is $65 (before shipping and handling). If the merchandise you have ordered does not total $65, the form will not allow you to proceed. The minimum order for deliveries inside India is $15. If you will be taking delivery in India and wish to order less than $65 worth or merchandise, your order must be processed manually. Please e-mail sales@priyankas.com for more information.

After you submit this form, you will see a confirmation of your order. If you wish to make any changes, you can. This confirmation will also show your shipping-and-handling fee, which is calculated automatically.

The international shipping-and-handling fee is calculated as a percentage of your order total. Please see the shipping-and-handling rate table for details.

The shipping-and-handling fee in India only is 5% of your order total.

If you are ordering any clothing other than sarees (such as blouses, petticoats, outfits, lingerie, men swear, etc.), you will need to submit your measurements. (For more information and advice about measurements, please see our Measurement Help page.) If you do not have your measurements available and can't easily get them, you may choose to submit them on the Measurement Form up to a few days later-but don't forget! (We suggest that you make a "bookmark" or a "favorite" of the Measurement Form page in your browser to help you remember.) Your order will be assigned an order number; please include that number when sending measurements. 

The next step is to proceed with the payment option of your choice, which you chose in the first step. (For more information about payment options, security, and policies, please see the Payment Options page.) When you have finished this step, an automatic e-mail will be sent to you with an order confirmation and an order number. If you need to communicate with us for any reason about the order, we will need that order number to assist you. At the same time, your order will be automatically sent to us for processing.

Once your order begins processing, you will receive another e-mail with tracking information. With your tracking number, you may track the progress of your order using our Track Your Order function. (Please also see the FAQ Can I track my order? for more information.) The order tracking will show you what stage of processing your order is in.

What are the seven stages in order processing?
1) Order has been placed by the customer and received by Priyanka's.
2) Inventory is being checked. 
3) Design work is being done.

Before the fourth stage is reached, you may send us corrections or changes to your contact information (that is, to your address, etc., but NOT to your merchandise details.)

4) Handwork (including embroidery, if any) is being done.
5) Stitching and final handwork is being done. 
6) Quality Control Test is being done. 
7) Order is being prepared for shipping.

Order Tracking?
Yes! From the day you place your order to the day it arrives at your door,

When you place an order, it is incorporated into a batch process. On that day, we send you an e-mail with your order number. Once your order begins processing, you will receive another e-mail with tracking information. With your tracking number, you may track the progress of your order using our Track Your Order function. The order tracking will show you what stage of processing your order is in. (Until the fourth processing stage begins, if you notice something in your address information that should be edited, you can e-mail us for corrections.)

When we ship the order, we send you an automatic e-mail with shipping details; then, you can track your order during shipment directly with the courier. (There are some exceptions; in certain cases, in order to protect our customers' security, we do not send a shipment tracking number. Please see the FAQ "Can I track my order during shipping -- will you send me the shipment tracking number?" for more information.)

Can I track my order during shipping -- will you send me the shipment tracking number?
In order to protect our customers against fraud (since we have had some fraud cases reported), we have revised our policy regarding shipment tracking numbers. We will be happy to send your shipment tracking number to you by e-mail if any of these situations apply:

- if you have ordered from Priyanka's before, and we thus have a customer history on file for you

- if you paid by wire transfer, money order, check, or cash

- if you paid by credit card, and the AVS information results we receive exactly match the security code, postcode, address, card issue, and country,/ contact country on file for your card

If we do not receive satisfactory confirmation from AVS, we may be able to track the shipment ourselves and send you updates. In certain such cases, when our processing and billing department has other information sufficient to determine that no fraud is in process, we may be able to send you the shipment tracking number after all. Our processing and billing department handles each such case individually.

If we are not able to send you a shipment tracking number, we ask for your patience in understanding that we must take these measures for the security of our customers.

I sent you a request to change some of my order information, but I do not see those changes when I log on to the tracking interface. Were my changes made?
We take pride in taking immediate action on all the customer e-mails we receive. If changes you have requested are not showing up in your tracking interface, the following problems may have prevented smooth functioning of our system:

- Our system identifies you by your e-mail address. If you placed an order using one e-mail address but sent your change request from a different one, the change request will not automatically be directed into your dedicated Customer Folder on our end. Please use only one e-mail address in your interactions with us from the day you place order to the day you receive it. 

- If your order has already completed the fourth stage of processing, it is too late to make changes. Change requests received after the fourth stage of processing of your order cannot be honored.

What are your payment options?
OPTION 1: Pay in US $, Canadian $, Australian $, UK £, or Japanese ¥ online with a credit card (including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discovery) in a secure environment
OPTION 2: Pay by wire transfer (called “Telegraphic Transfer” in some countries)

OPTION 1:  Pay in U.S. $, Canadian $, Australian $, UK £, or Japanese ¥ online with a credit card (including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discovery) in a secure environment. This is the easiest and most common method. Our credit card transactions are handled by WorldPay (for Visa and MasterCard) and CCNow (for American Express and Discovery cards). (We also accept domestic Indian credit cards to pay in Indian rupees—please see Option 3 below.) Through the WorldPay gateway, we accept payment in five different currencies (United States dollars, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars, United Kingdom pounds, or Japanese yen) with a Visa, MasterCard, Visa Purchasing, Visa Delta, Visa Electron, Diners, JCB, Switch, Solo, AmEx Purchasing (for billing addresses in England only), Laser, Maestro, Thistle Hotels Founder, Thistle Hotels Regular, LTF Credit, or LTF Edge card.

Through the CCNow gateway, we accept payment with an American Express or Discovery card.  
If you use a non-U.S.-currency credit card at CCNow, your bank will automatically convert to your home currency based on today's exchange rates.  Your credit card company may also charge a currency conversion fee for this service, and your final price may be affected by such fees. Priyanka’s is not responsible for such charges; they are entirely the responsibility of the buyer. This purchase will be a direct transaction between you and CCNow.  Charges will appear on your credit card statement as “CCNow”.

Why do you use WorldPay and CCNow? Why don't you just accept credit cards directly?
We have discovered that World Pay and CCNow give us better security and more efficient service than we would be able to arrange on our own. WorldPay is the leader in credit-card e-commerce based in the UK, and CCNow is the leader based in the US.

Can I buy from Priyanka's on a Cash Against Delivery (also called Cash On delivery, or COD) basis?
Unfortunately, no. We'd love to be able do that, but we don't know of any mechanism for it that would protect the interests of both parties.

About shipping
Are shipping and handling included in the prices of items?
For Package Sales, yes. Package Sales include the shipping-and-handling fee. Please see our Package Sale offers on our Priyanka's pages

If you are not ordering a Package Sale, we do charge a separate fee for shipping and handling. International shipping-and-handling rates are based on the size of your order: the larger your order, the lower the rate. For international orders, the shipping-and-handling rate varies from 27% to 10% of your order total (please see chart below). If your order is to be shipped within India, there is a flat 5% shipping-and-handling fee. 

On the checkout page, you will select a delivery destination, and the next page will calculate the shipping-and-handling fee for you automatically.

On request, we can also make special quotes for shipping if the merchandise order amount is over $1000.

What are your shipping-and-handling charges?
For delivery in India, the shipping-and-handling fee is 5% of your order total. 
For international orders, the shipping-and-handling fee is charged as a percentage of your order total as follows:

How long does delivery take?
We normally need a minimum of fifteen days for processing and shipping; outfits which have intricate hand work may take an additional two weeks or more. Check the description of the items you are ordering for more information. Outfits ordered from the Just Out Fashion, Buy In Less, Top 20 of the Month and Best Sellers sections can be delivered more quickly, but even for them we need three to four business days to tailor the garments to your measurements. All our international orders are delivered by DHL or equivalent courier companies, and their portion of the total delivery time varies according to the destination. Delivery within India will be in 24 to 36 hours after your order has been fully processed.

Do you assure on-time delivery ?
No, we are not able to promise delivery times, since we do not handle delivery ourselves but use a courier service. However, you will be able to track your order online during both order processing and delivery at: http://www.india.lu/myshop/track (Try our Tracking demo.). If you need something extra-quickly, we suggest ordering from our Just Out Fashion, Buy In Less, Top 20 of the Month and Best Sellers sections, as we keep extra stock on hand for the items in these sections and have streamlined the processing for them. How much VAT / Import duty will I have to pay?
Unfortunately, we cannot calculate this for you. VAT, customs taxes, and import duties are not in our control. They vary according to the rules of different countries and must be paid directly by the buyer. Each country has its own mechanism for calculating and collecting such fees. 
VAT / import duties / customs taxes are not included in our ordering process, but may be charged to you by your government. They are entirely your responsibility.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we are unable to alter the situation.

Will my order be delayed by import authorities or have problems with customs?
In our experience, there are few delays caused by customs or import procedures in most countries. The exceptions are Canada, where there are occasionally minor problems that cause a day or two of delay, and the U.K., where even small consignments may be processed harshly by the VAT authorities, causing a few or even several days' delay. 
Please keep in mind that all such issues are entirely beyond our control.

I will be visiting Bombay for a day. Can I come shop with you directly instead of having things shipped?
Part of the reason that we are able to keep our prices so low and our selection so large is that we do not have any showrooms or shops of our own. There would be nowhere for you to shop with us! Our facilities are warehouses, offices, and workrooms. You certainly may find some of the things we produce in the better retail shops and boutiques all over India, but the only place to find our entire selection is on our websites.

What if I am not at home when the courier tries to deliver my order? Can I waive the signature requirement so that the package can be left on my doorstep?
As an international e-commerce business, we must require a signed hard copy of delivery receipts. We do ask our couriers to attempt delivery three times. If, on the first attempt, you are not at home, then courier company will either call you to arrange a better delivery time, or leave details in your mailbox or on your door about contacting them for special arrangements. The individual courier companies have their own systems and requirements for this type of service, which may also vary from place to place; you may wish to contact the courier directly for more details.

About measurements
I don't know my exact measurements. I wear US women's size 10. Can you make my outfit using this information?
Yes, we can. But the more measurement information you can give us, the better your garment will fit. We can work with as little as your standard size. 
For more details and for advice on taking measurements, please refer our Measurement Help page. You may find that taking measurements is easier than you thought.
We strongly recommend that you fill in at least the measurements marked with a red asterisk [*] on the order form.
If you give us any measurement information, please do not add to your actual measurements. We will make the correct allowances for fabric shrinkage and for your comfort.
We offer three alternatives to having your exact measurements taken. You may also combine any of these options.
OPTION 1:  Measure a garment which fits you perfectly, and fill in its measurements on the form.
OPTION 2:  If you know your standard US, Irish, British, or Continental size, you may fill that in on the form. See our Measurement Form for a size chart.
OPTION 3:  If you are an average-sized Indian woman, then you can select a size from the Average Indian Woman Size Chart. (This is the least precise option.)

I need to place my order immediately, but I left my measurements written down elsewhere. Can I send them to you after I place my order?
Yes. If you wish to place your order right now, and you do not have your measurements handy but can get them (or take them) later, you may choose to submit them on the Measurement Form up to a few days later-but don't forget! We suggest that you make a "bookmark" or a "favorite" of the Measurement Form page in your browser to help you remember. Your order will be assigned an order number; please include that number when sending measurements.

Do I have to submit my measurements if I order only a saree?
If you order nothing but a saree (or a saree and a petticoat), no. But if you are ordering blouse to go with it, we will need your measurements to tailor it correctly. (If you have never worn a saree before, we want to let you know that a saree is worn with a blouse and a petticoat. Sarees are normally 5.5 yards in length. Petticoats are made in standard sizes with adjustable drawstring waists. However, for blouses we need measurements -- and not just your standard size, unless you choose an "as shown blouse" (that is, the blouse that the model in the photograph is wearing) If you choose an "as shown blouse" you need only give us your standard blouse size; if the blouse shown is sleeveless and 14" long, that's what you'll get. But if you order a "plain stitched blouse" or a "designer stitched blouse", you must specify your blouse length, sleeve length, and neck design choices on the order form.

I have ordered from Priyanka's before, and I gave you my measurements then. Do I have to get measured and give you my measurements all over again?
Yes, we recommend it, because over time most people's measurements change. Also, if you select a different design than your last order, we may need additional information.

I don't understand how you can tailor something for me properly over the Internet. How can I ensure that the fit of the clothes I order is perfect?
The trained eye of our master tailors is required to make sure that your outfit fits well. If a precise fit is especially important to you, we recommend you open a dialogue with our trained staff. You can contact our tailors by phone or e-mail to determine what features are the most important in your wardrobe, and they will make recommendations accordingly. If you have ordered from us before, our tailors will help you re-check your measurements and make sure of a perfect fit.

About our fabrics
Do you manufacture the fabrics yourself?
No, we do not manufacture fabrics, but we buy directly from fabric mills. We also design a lot of fabrics and place our orders with mill owners to make these fabrics exclusively for us.

Do I have to worry about fabric shrinkage?
No. All our fabrics are pre-shrunk. Although some fabrics continue to show a residual shrinkage of 2% to 3%, we understand and allow for this shrinkage when we craft your outfit. Please do not add to your exact measurements-we will make any appropriate allowances for shrinkage and for your comfort.

In all of India, we may be the only garment producer now using pre-washed, pre-shrunk cotton in our outfit linings and saree falls. You will never experience ruinous fabric puckering caused by mismatched fabric shrinkage ratios with our clothing.
